Arthur”BOO”Radley is a big part in the book “To Kill A mockingbird”. He is compared to a mockingbird because he is said to be innocent as a mockingbird is. Some may argue with this title for him because of his past, but others believe that because he didn’t “grow up” he is innocent and didn’t get the same racism than the other adults around Maycomb did. Boo Radley was always a myth to the children, it made the adolescents believe that he was a horrid person and because of one mistake from growing up he was known as a squirrel eating monster. Some adults didn’t believe in this myth and wanted to show the children that Boo wasn’t all bad. Ms. Maudie and Atticus didn’t agree with the assumptions they would make about Boo. Both adults would encourage the three children to refer to him as Mr. Arthur. They would, when in public, but between themselves they would call him Boo. Scout, Jem, and Boo had a special relationship because of how curious these children were of finding out the truth about him. Every time they would get closer, but never understood why he didn’t show himself. In chapter 31,“Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good-luck pennies, and our lives. But neighbors give in return. We never put back into the tree what we took out of it: we had given him nothing, and it made me sad.” The quote shows the bond that Scout built with Boo. even when they hadn’t met each other face to face there was a connection between them.bella
CALPURNIA
This is a picture of the finch's maid, Calpurnia.
Calpurnia is the Finches' house keeper and acts as a mother to Jem and Scout because their mother had passed away. She is a strong and positive influence on Jem and Scout. When Aunt Alexandra comes to stay she argued with Atticus to get her out of the house or change her role around the house. But Atticus refuses to make her leave because he knows how important she is to the family. "Don't pay no 'tention to Lula, she's contentious because Reverend Sykes threatened to church her. She's a troublemaker from way back, got fancy ideas an' haughty ways—we're mighty glad to have you all." This quote shows how she speaks and sticks up for others and herself and this also shows that she is a good influence on the children. This quote and details show how Calpurnia is like as herself and a mother to Jem and Scout.
SCOUT
This is an image of Scout Finch.
Jean Louise "Scout" Finch is the main character/narrator in "To Kill a Mockingbird "she is five at the start of the book and at the end she is eight years old. Scout lives in the town of Maycomb, She lives with her brother Jem, Father Atticus, and black maid, Calpurnia. Calpurnia acts as a mother to Scout since her mother had died a while ago and to give her an influence on life. Scouts attitude and appearance is closer to a boy, she is a Tomboy, Scout wears overalls for her play clothes and hangs out with Jem and Dill. Scout doesn't even like to wear dresses or play with dolls and other girly items. She is a very intelligent and outgoing little girl that doesn't let anything get to her. She always finds a way around the situation and always sees some goodness in people no matter what. Her thoughts are then changed later in the book at Tom Robinson's trial since the amount of racism and prejudice through out the trial.
Scout eventually develops a more grown-up/mature perspective in her town of Maycomb. "Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley porch was enough." This quote shows that she realizes that people deal with different issues and act different ways because of it. Once she learns how Boo felt she notices what he was put through and what he had to deal with. Like it was shown earlier this quote proves how she had matured and sees things in a different perspective of life and others. Scout also is very stubborn during the book since many things are not fair to her and the black population. Scout is mostly understanding and loving to everyone even the black population. So Scout has many different attitudes and personality because of the environment she is growing up around.
